I make stuff for myself. There are no deadlines or customers involved, only whichever problem has caught my attention that week, pursued until it solves itself or until I've learned why it won't.
It's a slower process of learning than working toward a deadline, but an honest one. None of this has been made to a set of specifications, so none of this is a compromise. If it happens to have any value for anyone other than me, that would be great.
